SUICIDE PREVENTION POSTER

With this poster design for the Samaritans on suicide prevention I was looking at how people who are suicidal and are desperate to escape their lives, will use whatever they can find to take their lives with. In this instance I chose a skipping rope. I thought about what a rope is really used for in terms of an everyday object and this is how I came up with this idea. The skipping rope also relates to a toy of a family member, being the daughter, and I thought this would make the message a little more hard-hitting as this brings into the subject matter sentimentality.
The gradient background (from black to white) signifies despair to hope, leading you to the Samaritans helpline.
The message is short and sweet, just like hanging is. Committing suicide is a very serious matter and is known as the ‘invisible illness’. This is why it is so important to speak to someone if you or anyone you know has suicidal thoughts, because it can be prevented with the help of others who are there to listen.
